Beijing Lattice Semiconductor Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Lattice") was established in June 2020. It is an innovative high-tech enterprise that integrates the research, production, and sales of silicon carbide (SiC) substrates. It has received attention from the Beijing municipal government and Shunyi District. Lattice is the first domestic company to use liquid phase method as its core technology for SiC crystal growth and has mastered the liquid phase technology with independent intellectual property rights. Compared with the current physical vapor transport method (PVT), this method can effectively improve crystal quality, reduce production costs, and solve the problem of p-type doping in SiC substrates, which is of great significance for promoting the development of wide bandgap semiconductor industry.

Lattice has built a pilot line for the preparation of SiC substrates by the liquid phase method in Shunyi Park, Zhongguancun. In terms of crystal growth, 4-6 inch p-type SiC crystals have been successfully grown, and the crystal size, crystal quality and thickness are all at the international leading level.

Industry background

As one of the representative materials of wide bandgap semiconductors, SiC has become an ideal material for manufacturing high-frequency, high-power, radiation resistant, and optoelectronic integrated devices due to its large bandgap width and high critical breakdown field strength. It has been widely used in many fields such as new energy vehicles, 5G communication, aerospace, rail transit, and has been included in the national "14th Five Year Plan" and the 2035 long-term goal outline, It is the bridgehead of the future high-tech industry.

The SiC industry chain mainly includes "substrate-epitaxy-device-package-application" and other links. Lattice is at the forefront of the SiC semiconductor industry chain--the preparation of substrate materials, which is the foundation and key to the development of the high-end chip industry. At present, domestic SiC substrate preparation enterprises all use the PVT method. Compared to the PVT method, the liquid phase method can obtain P-type SiC substrate wafers with high doping concentration and low resistance, which can fill the blank of P-type substrates.
